OpenDesk (the "App") is a study app where you study alongside friends in a shared virtual library. It is developed by Samuel Romero Moreno (the "Developer"), based in Spain. For any privacy-related question, contact [email protected].
1. Who can use the App
You must be at least 14 years old. The App asks for your date of birth when you start; if you are under 14 you cannot use it. Your date of birth is stored only on your device and is never sent to our servers. We only store whether you are 18 or over.
2. What data we process
- Sign-in: you sign in with Apple or Google. We receive an account identifier and, if you allow it, your email address (Apple may provide a private relay address). We use it only to create and recognise your account.
- Profile: the display name and animal you choose, whether you are 18 or over, and, optionally and only for adults, what you study.
- Study activity: the sessions you complete (start time, duration, subject and date), your XP, level and streak. Your daily goal and settings stay on your device.
- Groups and social features: the groups you create or join, join requests, the likes you give or receive and, while you study, a "studying now" status with your subject and start time. This is visible only to members of your groups.
- Field-of-study averages: if you are 18 or over and choose what you study, your study time is included in averages by field of study. Only averages are shown, and only when enough people are included. Nobody sees individual data.
- Notifications: daily and streak reminders are scheduled on your device. If you turn on the group alert (in Settings), we store your device’s push token and your language. When someone in your groups starts studying, we send the token and the alert text (their display name) to Expo’s push service, which delivers it through Apple or Google. Turning the alert off stops it, and deleting your account deletes the token.
- Advertising and purchases: the App shows ads from Google AdMob, only outside your study sessions and never during them. To serve and measure ads, Google may process your device’s advertising identifier, your approximate location and your interactions with ads. If you are under 18, or if you do not consent where the law requires it (for example in the EU and UK, where Google shows a consent form), ads are non-personalized. You can reset or limit the advertising identifier in your system settings. Premium (a subscription that removes ads) is processed by Apple or Google Play and managed through RevenueCat: we receive your subscription status and purchase history linked to your account identifier, never your payment details. We do not use any other third-party analytics.
3. Focus mode
While you study, the App can block other apps.
- Android: the App uses the "Usage access" and "Display over other apps" permissions, which you grant in your system settings. It checks which app is on screen, only on your device, to cover blocked apps while you study. This information is not collected, stored or sent to us.
- iPhone: where available, focus mode uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) framework. The apps you choose are kept by iOS on your device; the App only receives opaque tokens, never the names of your apps.
Focus mode is optional and you can end a session at any time.
4. Where data is stored and who processes it
Account and study data are stored with Supabase (database and authentication hosting). Sign-in is provided by Apple and Google. These providers may process data outside the European Economic Area under appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, and under their own privacy policies. Ads are served by Google AdMob (Google), and subscriptions are processed by Apple and Google Play and managed through RevenueCat, which receives your account identifier and purchase status.
